Mission and Values
Who We AreEvery call, inspection, class and community event comes back to one mission and three guiding values: Family, Skill and Honor.
Our Mission
Protecting Life, Property and the Environment
To serve the community by protecting life, property and the environment; by providing fire safety education, inspections, suppression, investigations, emergency medical support, disaster response, and hazardous materials mitigation. We will give the highest level of service possible with the level of resources provided to this department, in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible.
The mission sits alongside three guiding values set out in the department's 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. Residents see them in the way crews answer calls, teach fire safety in classrooms, inspect the township's businesses and show up at community events across Chesterfield.

Family, Skill, Honor
Three values guide how members of the department treat each other and the people they serve. The motto poster hangs in both fire stations and puts them in the members' own words:
Family
We will treat our community just like family.
Skill
Our duties will be carried out with the highest level of skill.
Honor
Everything we do both on and off duty will bring honor to our department.
Standards You Can Check
In August 2026 the Chesterfield Township Fire Department became the first fire department in Macomb County to be accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, after showing that it meets more than 250 performance criteria. Accreditation requires the department to measure its response times against published benchmarks, review its Standards of Cover every year, appraise every program annually and publish the results.
