Craig Miller
Chief Miller joined the Chesterfield Fire Department in 2018. Previously he served as Fire Chief for the Port Huron Township Fire Department for thirteen years. He began his career at the age of seventeen volunteering for an ambulance service. He attended the Macomb Fire Academy in 1987 and moved into the fire service.
Chief Miller maintains his Paramedic License, holds a Hazardous Materials Specialist Certification, and is a State of Michigan Fire Service Instructor. In 2026 Chief Miller was awarded the Chief Fire Officer Credential from the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
The Fire Chief oversees the day-to-day operations of the Chesterfield Township Fire Department and provides the Director of Public Safety with information and support through the township's planning and budgetary processes.
Fire suppression is led by the Fire Chief, with a designated officer-in-charge fulfilling command functions on emergency scenes. The Chief also oversees the Fire Prevention Bureau, which is responsible for the department's Community Risk Reduction program, inspections and code enforcement.
Emergency management for Chesterfield Township operates under the direction of the Fire Chief. When an incident requires township leaders to assemble, the Chief opens the Emergency Operations Center at Fire Station 3, and works with the Macomb County Office of Emergency Management to maintain awareness of incidents across the township, the county and the State of Michigan.
Responsibilities

- Oversee the Fire Prevention Bureau and the Community Risk Reduction program
- Run emergency management and open the township's Emergency Operations Center
- Represent the department with Macomb County and State of Michigan partners
