Part of a Year of Community Outreach
The Open House appears in every recent Department of Public Safety Annual Report as one of the department's signature outreach events. In 2022 the fire department hosted it alongside school and daycare visits, station tours with safety demonstrations, siren tests, a fire extinguisher class, senior health fairs and blood pressure days, and the Junior and Citizens' Public Safety Academies.
The same outreach work continues each year. In 2024 the Department of Public Safety installed 65 smoke detectors and 14 CO alarms, trained 189 CPR/BLS students and held three off-site fire safety demonstrations. In 2025 it trained 148 students in CPR, installed 49 smoke and CO detectors, conducted 34 child car seat inspections and took part in six Red Cross blood drives.
