The Chesterfield Township Public Safety Department will be hosting our popular Citizens’ Public Safety Academy on September 13th thru November 29th. Classes will be each Tuesday 6:30pm – 9:30pm for 12 weeks.

What is a Citizens’ Public Safety Academy?
The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy is designed to provide the residents and business owners of Chesterfield Township with a hands on learning environment in the law enforcement profession. It is the goal of the Citizens‘ Public Safety Academy to familiarize each participant with the knowledge, skills, and tactics needed to be a successful Public Safety Officer.
Who can Attend?
The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy is free of charge and open to all Chesterfield Township residents and business owners over the age of 18. Participants may not have any felony convictions and have no misdemeanor convictions within the last 4 years. Each applicant will be subject to a background investigation. Application packets can be picked up at the department or downloaded via the department website www.chesterfieldpolice.org.
Selected applicants will be notified and will subject to having their fingerprints taken prior to the start of the academy.
What To Expect
The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy will cover the topics listed below but not limited to:
- Laws of arrest
- Learn how a case is prosecuted from arrest to conviction
- Accident investigation
- CPR-AED Certification
- OWI detection
- Crime Scene Preservation and Processing
- Mock Traffic Stops
- Participants will be hands on with everyday equipment used in the field
- Defensive Tactics/ Handcuffing
- Ride along (4 hours voluntary)
- Graduation ceremony
How Long Is The Academy?
The Academy class will meet once a week (Tuesday) for 3 hours and run for 12 weeks. Classes will take place at the police department, except for occasional off site classes. The 12th week of training will consist of a graduation ceremony open for family members to attend.
