The Chesterfield Township Public Safety Department is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a Citizens’ Public Safety Academy on Wednesday nights this September 11, 2024 – November 20, 2024, 6:30pm-9:30pm. The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy is designed to provide the residents and business owners of Chesterfield Township with a hands-on learning environment in the law enforcement profession. It is the goal of the Citizens’ Public Safety Academy to familiarize each participant with the knowledge, skills, and tactics needed to be a successful Law Enforcement Officer.

Who can attend?
The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy is free of charge and open to all Chesterfield Township residents and business owners over the age of 18. Participants may not have any felony convictions and have no misdemeanor convictions within the last 4 years. Each applicant will be subject to a background investigation. Application packets can be picked up at the police department or downloaded via the links in this page.
Only selected applicants will be notified and will be subject to having their fingerprints taken prior to the start of the academy.
What To Expect
The Citizens’ Public Safety Academy will cover the topics listed below, but not limited to:
- Laws of arrest
- Learn how a case is prosecuted from arrest to conviction
- Accident investigation
- CPR-AED Certification
- OWI Detection
- Crime Scene Preservation and Processing
- Mock Traffic Stops
- Hands-on with everyday equipment used in the field
- Defensive Tactics/Handcuffing
- Ride-along (4 hours voluntary)
- Graduation Ceremony
How long is the Academy?
The academy will meet once a week (Wednesdays) for 3 hours and run for 11 weeks. Classes will take place at the police department, except for occasional offsite classes. The 11th week will consist of a graduation ceremony open for family members to attend.
